The Santa Rita Collaborative

The Santa Rita Collaborative is leading the Community Partnership Initiative with the goal of building a statewide network of Community Partnerships throughout Ohio. A limited liability company employing an experienced team of business, communication, technology and public engagement specialists, Santa Rita manages the creation, training and information flow of
each Community Partnership and coordinates the work of the statewide Community
Partnership network.

Founders and Owners

Charles Irish was superintendent of the Medina City Schools for 13 years and relied upon an engaged public to share in problem solving to help him lead his district through turbulent times.
A contributing author and editor to The Power of Public Engagement: A Beacon of Hope for America's Schools, his work in public engagement has been reported by Education Week
and the Annenberg Institute for School Reform. In addition, he has served as a public
engagement consultant for the Kettering Foundation, the Harwood Institute for Public
Innovation and the Knowledge Works Foundation.

William O'Callaghan has been a public affairs executive and corporate lobbyist for a Fortune
500 company, a newspaper reporter, a high school coach and teacher, and for the past two decades a public engagement consultant in more than 150 school districts throughout Ohio.
He is coauthor of The Power of Public Engagement; A Beacon of Hope for America's Schools
and When the Choir Began to Sing: A Story About Awakening the Leader Who Lives Within
Each of Us
and author of Putting the Power of Public Engagement to Work for Your Schools and Community and Thinking Outside the Box: How Educational Leaders Can Safely Navigate the Rough Waters of Change.

   

Paul Pendleton is a highly sought after facilitator and trainer. He is a certified Baldrige Award of Excellence Trainer and Examiner, co-author of The Power of Public Engagement: A Beacon of Hope for America's Schools and an editorial contributor to the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and other professional associations. He is a member of the board of directors of the Ohio Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, executive director of the Council for Academic Excellence.

Community Partnership Coaches

Dennis Buzzelli has spent 36 years in public education serving as a high school English teacher, high school principal, curriculum director, assistant superintendent and superintendent for a city school district and a county-wide educational service Center, and associate director for the Summit Education Initiative, a community based organization in Summit County. He is the recipient of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators Exemplary Educational Leadership Award, IBM Outstanding Education Award, the Martha Holden Jennings Leadership Award and the Northern Ohio Live Award of Achievement for Education.

Steve Franko has 30 years of experience as a school teacher, administrator, staff development director and superintendent. In addition to serving as an adjunct professor at John Carroll University and as an associate of the Pacific Institute in Seattle, Washington, he is a certified trainer for Myers-Briggs, the Cambridge Management Group's strategic planning program and the Covey Leadership Center's "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" and the Pacific Institute's "Imagine 21 Fast Track to Change".

Greg Hinson has 35 years of experience in both urban and rural public education settings as a classroom teacher, school administrator and graduate level instructor. While serving as superintendent of the Fairless Local Schools in Stark County, Ohio, he pioneered the development of the Care Team Program. He is a frequent presenter at statewide and national conferences regarding ways in which school systems can increase student achievement through collaborative efforts to reduce non-academic barriers to learning.

Larry Pitts has 32 years in public education. He retired from the superintendency to help school districts throughout the country develop and implement school improvement and public engagement programs. Throughout his career, he has utilized organizational development, systemic change, adult learning and public engagement as the cornerstones for educational progress. He has received an Ohio BEST Practice Award for Public Engagement, been a presenter for The Council for Educational Administration and The American Educational Research Association and served as an adjunct college professor.

Management and Technical Consultants

Ron Baker is chairman of Marketing Communications Counsel, Inc. Founded in 1981, MCC focuses communications technology, problem-solving skills and creative talents on wide-ranging assignments that include its client's customers, employees, the general public and the media. MCC's work encompasses manufacturers of highly-engineered products, local government, entrepreneurial-based businesses and associations and non-profit organizations.

Bob Lasser is a business and community leader from northeast Ohio. In addition to being Chairman of Redline Investments LLC, he is an owner and/or partner in several businesses ranging from manufacturing to professional services and serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club. As former CEO for Management Reports Incorporated (MRI) in Cleveland, he engineered the multi-million-dollar sale of his company to legendary software giant Intuit, Inc.

Ron Mayher is the owner and President of Business Research Services, Inc. a full-service market research company that has been operating for more than 35 years. BRS conducts telephone interviews and focus groups from its centralized data collection center and focus room facilities. Experience has been gained on domestic and international projects over the years for a variety of industries including schools, municipalities, transportation, health care, retail and manufacturing.

Joel Strom is a Certified Management Consultant with more than 30 years of experience as a corporate engineer, manager, executive, consultant and trainer. In addition to having served as president of his own manufacturing company, he is founder of Joel Strom Associates, a firm which provides management support for closely held businesses and organizations, a member of the board of directors of the University of Akron 's Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies and several companies.
